The delegation of the University of Innsbruck inaugurated last year a project of research and study of the surface of the territory of Verucchio in order to create an archaeological map of Marecchia Valley.
The project is coordinated by Professor Alessandro Naso and involves a group of students of various nationalities, mostly Austrian and Italian, in close collaboration with the Regional Soprintedenza of Emilia-Romagna.
The project started with the professional collaboration between Professor. Naso and Dr. Patrizia von Eles, director of the museum of Verucchio, which provides the necessary logistical support to foreign students on the Italian territory. Students and teachers have already found a lot more information than they expected; the result of their research will eventually be made available for local scholars also, who can integrate their knowledge and new discoveries about the type and distribution of human settlements in the territory of Valmarecchia from Paleolithic to Roman times.
