The agreement between Dorna, Republic of San Marino, Province of Rimini and Santamonica Spa, which allows the Grand Prix in Misano expires in an year.
The Grand Prix of San Marino and Riviera of Rimini gives food for thought. The Grand Prix is a global meeting that attracts many motorcycle enthusiasts on the Riviera, and is followed around the world, but it is also true that management costs of the event are very high and on this times of crisis it is difficult to take wise decisions. This year about 5,000 tickets were sold, less than last year. Some speculate that the reason is the crisis, while others argue that many have abandoned the idea of participating at the competition because of Valentino Rossi’s accident at MotoGP and the lack of local players in the 125 and Moto2 competition. Despite these assumptions, Dorna seems to be attracted by the idea of having a world championship for another five years on the Riviera.
Unfortunately, the incident in which the young Sohya Tomizawa lost his life, has opened a debate on the future of MotoGP. The town of Misano sent a message of condolence to the team represented by Tomozawa.
