With the exhibition entitled "Histrionica.Theatres, masks and performances in the ancient world", the Fondazione RavennAntica raises the curtain on the origins of theatre with its characters, stage props, architecture and rituality.

This is the first exhibition of this kind in Northern Italy. Ancient theatre will be revealed through the splendid remains, mostly from the Roman period, from the area of Vesuvius and kept in the collections of the National Archaeological Museum of Naples and in the museums of Emilia-Romagna, in particular from the National Museum of Ferrara which conserves the heritage of the necropolis of Spina with its extraordinary attic vases connected to the origins of the theatre.
The contextual scenes are evocative, the objects are of rare beauty and the spectacle will not fail to amaze lovers of art, archaeology and… theatre. The displays have many surprises in store: visitors will be able to enter the workshop of an artisan of Pompei and examine at close range a group of fifteen masks from 2000 years ago which were probably models used to produce the masks actually used by the actors.
Then it will be possible to enter an area set up as a real theatre and watch theatrical performances.
